So far, I think that I have learned a simple lesson during the course of my GAME plan. I have realized that to incorporate technology in my instructional practice does not have to be an overwhelming and time consuming task. There are so many tools right at my fingertips, such as tools that come with my school software, fellow educators' blogs I can follow in Google Reader, and a growing list of resources saved on my Delicious page.
I do not feel that I am at a point yet where I am ready to add new learning goals, since I am still making progress in achieving my previously set ones. I plan to continue to grow in my independent professional development by adding more blogs and websites that contain educational technology information for mathematics classrooms to my Reader. I also plan to attend at least one workshop before the end of the school year, as long as my school is able to pay for my attendance.
In order to improve my learning in future research in educational technology, I plan to set realistic goals and take my time making sure I get the most out of the learning process. I will try to do this instead of rushing to complete the task.

I like starting with small steps by taking things I already know how to do and implementing them in my classes before I try something more expansive that I have not done before. I also need to figure out which class is the right one to implement technology tools into first. I teach one year long class and in that class I have much more time to try different things. If I do things that do not work I have plenty of extra time built in the schedule to make up that time. If there are projects that take longer than I think or at least longer than they would take if I taught them in a more traditional way, then I can afford to lose that time. In my semester long classes every day is important and I cannot afford to lose a single day of instruction so if something does not work I become hard pressed to make up the time. Once I know something works and is time efficient, then I can apply it to the semester long classes.
ReplyDeleteConcentrating on the present set goals allows one to have a deep understanding and a good grasp of how to use needed technology tools. The experience acquired in the process would become useful when you are ready to add new learning goals.I also feel I should seek ways of improving how to achieve my present set goals before embarking on new ones. However, my support network is very little for now.
ReplyDeleteYou have certainly understood how to go about managing your time. As for conferences, you could ask the organizers for funding as they do help out. I have done so before. Once again I agree with you that small steps will be more rewarding as big leaps often lead to disappointments and we lose the motivation.
